Cool Background in 1 Minute

Today I will show you a simple effect in Photoshop that will result in a great background. You will need a good quality photo with good colors and of course a version of Photoshop.
I will be using this photo that I’ve shot in my last trip. I like this picture because it has a lot of blues and an ok contrast.
Now go to Filter/Blur/Motion Blur and apply these settings.
And tadaaaam…you have your background.
And you can always play around with some adjustment layer to change the colors or the contrast.

I’ve seen a similar technique over at Tutorial9 using Gausian Blur but thanks to your article I’m inspired to try out different Blur methods. Thank you.

Top tips:
- Repeat blurring if you’re not happy with the result.
- Apply the filter Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask with high settings to get more of a ‘bang’ from the picture.
